5/4/20: In an interview with the New York Post, the president paints a rosy picture of a COVID-free future, even though, the day before, he said on Fox News, “We’re going to lose anywhere from 75, 80, to 100,000 people.”
At any rate, Trump explained, “I think [Americans are] starting to feel good now. The country’s opening again. We saved millions of lives, I think.”
Then readers were treated to a classic piece of Trumpspeak, a combination of bragging and an absence of logic or fact. “The one thing that the pandemic has taught us is that I was right,” Trump told the Post. “You know, I had people say, ‘No, no, it’s good. You keep — you do this and that.’ Now those people are really agreeing with me. And that includes medicine and other things, you know.”
Yes, indeed. Fighting a deadly virus with “this and that” and “other things.” Like what? Fly swatters? Mulching mowers? T-shirt cannons? Trump can’t really explain what’s happening because he’s too lazy to really study the problem, or come up with a plan.
