December 23, 2019: De Regula Iuris non est ex Mortuis.

12/23/19: A new batch of emails obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request show that 91 minutes after President Trump’s “perfect” July 25 call to President Zelensky, a White House aide notified the Pentagon that Trump wanted aid to Ukraine halted. (See: 12/29/19.)

The call between the two leaders ended at 9:33 a.m. At 11:04 a. m. Michael Duffey, a political appointee, who worked on budget matters, swung into action.

“Please hold off on any additional DoD obligations of these funds, pending direction from that process,” Duffey says. He’s quick to add, “Given the sensitive nature of the request, I appreciate your keeping that information closely held to those who need to know to execute the direction.”

In Trumpistan, this timing is purely a coincidence and Duffey is not trying to hide anything at all.

Just to be safe, however, President Trump now insists that Duffey may not testify despite a subpoena from the House Intelligence Committee.

To be doubly safe, Senate Majority Leader McConnell has said he doesn’t want to have any witness in an impeachment “trial.”

Not Duffy. Not Howdy Doody. Not the Tin Man, nor Dorothy. No witnesses at all.

At the rate we’re going, if Trump is re-elected and another opening appears on the U.S. Supreme Court, the president will nominate his son, Don Jr. for a seat. If a cowed GOP still has a Senate majority, Susan Collins will insist she’s concerned. Then she and all the other cowards will go along.

De regula iuris non est ex mortuis.

(Translation: The rule of law is dead.)
