1/22/20: Trump pretends he’s not worried about the impeachment trial. Then he posts 140 tweets and retweets, mostly about the trial, in one day.
Finally, his thumbs give out and he has to ice them.
Meanwhile, we are reminded that Candidate Trump promised in 2015 that he would always protect Social Security. Today, reporters ask if Social Security and other entitlements cuts will be on his agenda if he wins a second term in office.
“At some point they will be,” he responds. That comment does not
go over well with his aging base. (See: 1/23/20.)

THE IMPEACHMENT continues. Democrats present evidence. For example, we learn that after Trump made his “perfect” phone call to President Zelensky of Ukraine, two people who heard the call, Tim Morrison, and Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, went to National Security Council lawyers with concerns.
Republicans counter with loud denunciations of the people presenting the evidence and try to paint the witnesses, testifying under oath, as liars.
GOP senators are also outraged when one of the Democratic managers of the case against the president accuses them of being part of a “cover up” to protect the president. Boy, that pisses them off!
So, would any of those Republican senators care to hear from witnesses who might rebut the evidence presented?
Nope.
Then again, it turns out there is one Republican who says he would be thrilled to hear from witnesses. That would be Mr. Trump, who tells reporters he would enjoy it greatly if the Senate would call witnesses. He’d like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former National Security Advisor John Bolton to stop by the Senate for a chat.
Senate Majority Leader McConnell, who has been working hard
to make sure that no witnesses get within 500 miles of the Senate chamber, is
rumored to have fainted on hearing the news.
