May 28, 2020: Jobless Rate May Hit 23.9 Percent

5/28/20: If you missed the ugly news, another 2.1 million Americans filed for unemployment this week. That brings the staggering total (in ten weeks) to 40.8 million. Fortune estimates that the jobless rate when the May figures are released will be 23.9 percent.

MASTER SGT. DAVID ROYER, an active-duty soldier, stopped what could have been another one of our nation’s many mass shootings. A military police officer, stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Royer was driving home when an apparent road-rage incident caused a man to stop his car on a bridge between Kansas and Missouri. The man exited his car and opened fire with a semi-automatic weapon, seemingly at random. Royer, who was not directly involved, decided to ram the shooter with his truck, and despite flying bullets, did so, knocking him down and pinning him to the ground. Police credit Royer with saving “countless lives.”

We can use good news like that, especially these days.
