4/5/20: Governors in 41 states have issued stay-at-home orders. Parts of four more states are shut down. A nationwide stay-at-home policy couldn’t cause much more damage because we’re all staying home already.
In all likelihood it could dramatically slow the spread and shorten the time during which the nation suffers real pain.
As of Sunday morning, the U.S. has tested 1.7 million
people for the COVID-19 virus. That’s the most of any nation.
The problem comes when you understand how slow we were to get testing up and running, or even take the need seriously. South Korea, with one-sixth the population of the U.S., has tested 461,000 people.
They began early.
Adjusted for population, the following countries – including one this blogger had never heard of before – have all done a better job of testing their citizens: Aruba, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man (sort of a country; definitely a tax haven), Israel, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, San Marino (who knew!), Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and United Arab Emirates.
And: South Korea.
