9/24/19: If Trump went to bed happy Monday, having insulted the teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg, his mood soured Tuesday. The Washington Post reported that a whistleblower had filed a complaint with the Inspector General for the U.S. intelligence community. Some unknown individual inside the White House alleged that the president had made a “promise” to a foreign leader. If fulfilled, that pledge might do serious damage to U.S. national interests.
The Inspector General had found the complaint “credible” and troubling enough to be of “urgent concern.”
Trump responded the same way he always does. He attacked the
free press. He insulted his critics. The call he made, he claimed, was “pitch
perfect.”
