September 27, 2018: President Trump's "Big Fat Con Job."

9/27/18: In what by now is a patented presidential performance, Trump announces he will be holding a press conference. Media types gather and listen for an hour and twenty minutes, while the president meanders down the highways and byways of his mind, uttering whatever thoughts percolate to the fore and flop from his lips. Asked about accusations against Judge Kavanaugh (see, for example, 9/26/18), he replies that it’s all part of a “big fat con job.”

Trump assails the Democrats, instead, and by extension, most of the reporters gathered to listen and ask hard question if opportunity allows. He insists, “They go into a room and I guarantee you, they laugh like hell at what they’ve pulled off on you and the public.”

One might argue that without intending, Mr. Trump has just summarized his presidency in four words: “big fat con job.”

History is full of authoritarian rulers who crushed the free press.

Saddam Hussein would be one.

BLOGGER’S NOTE: To view some of the good work done by reporters, regarding Judge Kavanaugh, see the post for 9/30/18-10/2/18.
