January 28-30, 2017: President Trump Screws Our Muslim Allies

1/28/17: An incompetent rollout of a travel ban aimed at individuals from seven Muslim nations catches thousands in transit. This includes potential terrorists such as renowned doctors, students enrolled in U.S. universities (Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Texas A&M and others lodge protest) and Iraqis who  fought on the American side and are seeking asylum. An Iraqi general headed to the United States to talk strategy is blocked. With cuts to the number of refugees to be allowed to enter also ordered, Afghans who helped our military are told not to apply for visas.

NOTE TO TRUMP FANS: Did you know Iraqis and Afghans are U.S. allies? So are the Kurds. The Kurds are fighting hard to retake Mosul, a city held by ISIS. Almost all these people are Muslims.

They’re on our side. (See: 2/23/17.)

Kurdish fighters have been invaluable to the U.S.

___

1/29/17: In a surprise move, Trump appoints his favorite political strategist and Darth Vader aficionado Steve Bannon, to a seat on the National Security Council.

One former GOP official speaks for many when he says he worries “life and death [decisions] for the people in uniform” might be “tainted” by political calculation. (See: 8/18/17.)

___

1/30/17: Administration officials promise Trump will withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. Every conservative knows climate change is a fiction. So long as anyone can pack a snowball, what’s the problem? Besides, how bad could it be if leaders from only 175 countries signed the original agreement?

You didn’t see Saudi Arabia giving in to peer pressure, did you? No you did not. (See: 4/17/17.)

NOTE TO TRUMP FANS: The Saudis are U.S. allies. They’re Muslims. You can’t pretend all the Muslims in the world want to kill you. Like most Americans, most Muslims just want to lead happy lives.

October 21-22: President Me-Myself-and-I Announces Defeat of ISIS

10/21/17: President Me-Myself-and-I announces the defeat of ISIS in Raqqa, calling it a “critical breakthrough.” This means he’s the best president ever. “We have made, alongside our coalition partners, more progress against these evil terrorists in the past several months than in the past several years,” Trump asserts.

As usual, Trump supporters are too lazy to think for themselves. They won’t realize the coalition that defeated ISIS was put together long before Trump took office. All he had to do was not mess it up. (See: 9/15/17.)

According to Pentagon estimates 60,000 ISIS fighters had already been wiped off the map by February 15, 2017.

(Two years later, Trump will desert the Kurds, who did almost all of the hardest fighting against ISIS; and he won’t blink once. See: 1/14/19.)

10/22/17: President Trump is up and at ‘em early, on a fine fall day. What to do first? Study up on what happened to our soldiers in Niger? Guess again. Check in on recovery efforts in Puerto Rico? Those people are “ingrates.” What matters most to the man in the White House?

Tweets.

Trump does something Obama never could do.

Trump has to tell the world at 7:08 a.m. that the American people are coming around. “It is finally sinking through,” he taps, mostly in caps, “46% OF PEOPLE BELIEVE MAJOR NATIONAL NEWS ORGS FABRICATE STORIES ABOUT ME. FAKE NEWS, even worse! Lost cred.”

If you like polls, Mr. President, how about this: 56% of American voters think you’re not fit to serve as president. By 59%-37% the people think you’re not honest. By a 60%-38% margin they believe you lack leadership skills.

Last, but amazingly, not least, Trump has done something President Obama could never do. He has managed to make the Affordable Care Act popular. Since he took office the “favorable” numbers of the ACA have been rising, with 49.4% of Americans now in favor of keeping the law vs. 40.4% still dreaming of some miraculous GOP plan to “repeal and replace.”
