The Porn Star and the President – Part XI
(A Story of Lying)
Donald and Stormy in happier times. |
The final chapter of this saga is yet to be written; and if the former president is indicted in New York, he may prevail in court.
Like any American, Mr. Trump deserves a fair trial, if one is coming, and could well be found innocent.
We already know something fundamental about the man.
But we already know something fundamental about the man. Donald J. Trump is a colossal liar. He lies often, lies loud, and lies for pleasure. He lies to wives. He lies about Russians. He lies about taxes.
He lies to the American people; and when he gets tired of lying, he hires other liars to lie in his stead.
Finally, he lies about the “stolen election” of 2020.
So far, Donald Trump has never been caught lying in court – mainly because he has managed to hide behind phalanxes of high-priced lawyers. In most cases he has avoided testifying at all, and, if cornered, has simply plead the Fifth.
A little
more context, then. And we shall wait to see what happens in the case of the
porn star and the president.
First, another sighting for the porn star:
8/22/20: Some presidents have a moral
compass. Some don’t. Harry Truman memorized the following prayer when he was a
boy, and would repeat it often the rest of his life, and do his best to live by
these precepts:
Oh! Almighty and Everlasting God,
Creator of Heaven, Earth and the Universe:
Help me to be, to think, to act what
is right, because it is right; make me truthful, honest and honorable in all
things; make me intellectually honest for the sake of right and honor and
without thought of reward to me. Give me the ability to be charitable,
forgiving and patient with my fellowmen – help me to understand their motives
and their short-comings – even as Thou understandest mine!
Amen, Amen, Amen.
Truman - a president with a moral compass that worked. |
As for Donald Trump, his moral compass is broken, if he ever had one
Pay the porn lady, Donald.
Case in point, a judge has now ordered the President of the United States to pay the court costs for Stormy Daniels, the porn queen he paid off not to tell her story during his first run for office.
Daniels sued in 2018 to be able to tell her tale; Trump and his lawyers sued to stop her, and ultimately lost.
A California Superior Court judge, where the case was heard,
has ruled that Trump must pay $44,100.
___
Then we had a prediction:
11/8/20: The smoke has cleared. The election is over. Joseph Biden has
been declared victor.
“No
one wants to tell King Lear the truth.”
Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal lawyer for more
than a decade, and a man indicted and convicted on felony charges along with an
unidentified co-conspirator labeled “Individual 1,” makes a bold prediction.
He tells a reporter he doubts “Individual 1”
(Trump) will ever concede. At Christmas, he predicts, President Trump will
leave the White House and head for Mar-a-Lago. And he will never come back.
No Biden inaugural for him!
According to Hallie Jackson, a reporter for
MSNBC, a person close to the White House told her no one wanted the job of telling the president he lost. “No one wants
to tell King Lear the truth,” the source said.
___
Then a wrap for today:
3/23/23: If we
want to come to grips with the truth, we must judge the former president, in part,
based on the arc of his record.
Eight hundred and seventy days since the election.
We know, for example, that 870 days have passed since the 2020 election. No evidence has ever been proven in court, local, state or federal, to show that Donald was cheated out of a second term.
Dozens of court challenges were snuffed out.
Multiple recounts showed Biden still winning.
And, like him or hate him, Mr. Biden got seven million more votes than Trump in the 2020 election; he will be judged in his own way, separately, depending on how he does during four years in the White House.
Joe Biden is irrelevant to this story.
Stormy Daniels has told hers and now may have add a new ending.
Michael Cohen has told his story – and gone to jail - for his role in a cover up that served Donald’s purposes.
Donald insists
all three are liars; but he has not yet been forced to tell his story before a
judge, and perhaps a jury.
*
SO, let’s consider one last “tell,” as a poker player might describe it. We know that President Trump had a habit of pardoning people to save his fat ass – but not pardoning others if they cooperated with investigators.
The biggest “tell” of all.
He pardoned Roger Stone, who piled up seven felonies, mostly for telling lies that protected the president. That’s a “tell.”
And the “tell” is that Trump likes liars who will lie to protect him.
Until recently, the dishonor of having the most felonies, while working for Trump, went to Paul Manafort, convicted on eight counts, avoiding ten more convictions only because a single juror held out.
That would be Trump’s campaign chair in 2016 – a man who lied repeatedly about never having seen any Russians.
That would be Paul Manafort – later admitting he was guilty of those ten counts, but not being charged, as part of a plea deal – then being convicted on two more felony counts – including one for witness tampering.
Ten felonies for Manafort.
And another pardon. Another “tell,” if you will.
(Allen Weisselberg has
since taken the lead for Team Trump – with 15 felonies.)
Trailing well behind, with a pair of felonies, President Trump’s old personal lawyer, Mr. Cohen, did not receive a pardon.
Because he cooperated with authorities. When Cohen started telling the truth, then he fell out of favor.
Think about that.
Broidy, Flynn, Papadopoulos, Steve Bannon (that’s a whole other story about lying) and several others got pardons, because they protected Trump when he was in legal jeopardy.
The biggest “tell” of all?
The 45th President of the United States, Donald John Trump, was the first man ever to take a seat in the Oval Office and say: “I can pardon myself.”
