December 25, 2019: "Merry Christmas," Trump Fans - And Order Those "Free" Coins Today!

12/25/19: “Merry Christmas,” to all Trump lovers everywhere, who think, just because Trump is president, it’s safe to say “Merry Christmas” again.

This liberal can attest to the fact that it has been safe to say, “Merry Christmas,” since at least 1950, when he learned to talk and walk.

You may also safely say, “Happy holidays,” if you think a person is not a practicing member of any Christian faith.

Or you may in complete safety say, “Happy holidays,” if you want a shorter salutation than, “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”

You can even wear a festive sweater, emblazoned with the words, “Fuck Trump and the sleigh he rode in on,” if the holiday spirit moves you. Because this is a great country and you have rights; and the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that profanity is, in most settings, and in most usages, a form of free speech.

See, for example, the decision in Cohen v. California.

*

“Hand in glove with the defense.”

IT MAY BE SAFE to say, “Seasons greetings,” too; but if you care about the rule of law, that rule may not be safe for long.

Even Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski seems worried on this fine Christmas day. What the senator from Alaska says is what almost any sensible American should be saying. She is “disturbed” by Senate Leader McConnell’s vow (offered up on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show), that he would be “coordinating” with the Trump defense team during the entire impeachment process, on up through the trial. “There will be no difference between the president’s position and our position as to how to handle this,” McConnell assured Mr. Hannity, who was thrilled by the news.

(No sensible American ever accused Hannity of being a sensible American.)

Murkowski tells an interviewer, “When I heard that I was disturbed. To me it means that we have to take that step back from being hand in glove with the defense, and so I heard what leader McConnell had said, I happened to think that that has further confused the process.”

To be fair, Sen. Murkowski faulted Democrats in the House of Representatives too. “If the House truly believes that they had information that was going to be important,” she says, “they subpoena them, and if they ignore the subpoena – as they did, at the direction of the White House – then that next step is to go to the courts.”

Fox News, in its report, did not care to note that the House of Representatives had already sent several challenges to the courts. Nor did its reporters mention that a key lawsuit is unlikely to reach the U.S. Supreme Court before next June. Nor did they wish to trouble their audience with the logic of any Democratic case. That is, if the President of the United States refuses to allow any witnesses to testify – on any related matter in the Ukraine investigation – and orders government agencies to refuse all document requests – then if such behavior is allowed to stand, the rule of law is deceased. Every future president could copy the Trump Playbook.

So, “Merry Christmas,” to you.

“Seasons’ Greetings,” if you prefer. Unless you are a Druid. Druids worship nature. So, every season is cool.

THE PRESIDENT issues his annual Christmas message, which, considering the messenger, could be mistaken for a hoax.

“A culture of deeper understanding and respect.”

While the challenges that face our country are great,” he says, “the bonds that unite us as Americans are much stronger.”

Together, we must strive to foster a culture of deeper understanding and respect—traits that exemplify the teachings of Christ.

We hope your heart is filled with the love and joy of your faith, family, and friends this Christmas. We send our best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

When I check out the story (above) on Breitbart, I notice some of their other stellar journalistic work. I can check out an article titled, “Why Does This French Lady Have 4 Million Views for a Prostate Solution?” I can also click on a link for Trump supporters who want to claim a free “Patriot’s Knife set.”

Or. I can claim a free hat if I’m a Trump fan:

And there’s another story I might like: “This Little Thing from Trump is Driving Liberals Mad.” Well, I have to see this!

Oh boy!

According to Liberty Journalists, “this little thing” is actually a Trump limited edition Victory Coin. And what do you know! The president has been giving these coins away free. But only for a limited time. They are “flying off the shelves, so act fast.”

I start typing like an old codger possessed. God damn it. I don’t want to miss out….I click on the link. Yes! I can still get one free.

Wait. Wouldn’t I prefer to order ten coins, for only $4.99 each?

Or, that great free coin can be mine, so long as I agree to pay $7.95 for shipping.

As a liberal, I suddenly realize that the people behind this wonderful offer must think Trump supporters are too stupid to do basic math.

POSTSCRIPT: Trump’s Christmas mood of understanding and respect doesn’t last more than a few hours.

By the time he dons his pajamas and prepares for bed, he’s tweeting about “Crazy Nancy Pelosi” and the “scam” impeachment case. (See: 12/26/19.)
