January 14, 2022: Fear the Crooks in the Suits

1/14/22: Whom should we fear more? The burglar who robs our home while we’re away on vacation, or the company CEO with zero scruples?

Once again, a corporation – this time in the form of Navient, one of the largest student loan services in the country – proves to have no guiding principles other than that the greatest good is the greatest profit ending up in the hands of the chosen few.

Sued by 38 states and the District of Columbia, Navient has agreed to forgive college loans for 66,000 students, worth $1.7 billion, and pay $95 million in restitution.

The crooks at Navient had deceived students into signing up for high-interest loans they’d never be able to repay.

Or, as Josh Shapiro, the Attorney General for Pennsylvania, explained, “They ran a multi-billion dollar scam.”

ON A MORE positive note, Renault, the French automaker, is vowing to go all-electric with its vehicles by 2030.

Climate change again.
